Do we need permission from the DNO before installing commercial solar?

For most commercial systems, yes. Small systems exporting up to 16A per phase connect under G98 and only need notifying. Anything larger needs a G99 application to the DNO before connection, which in Derby is National Grid Electricity Distribution. On some parts of the network they may require export limitation. We prepare and submit the application as part of the project.
