About Ben
I'm Ben Thorburn, a seasoned Project Manager at Power and Control Ltd. My journey in this industry hasn't been a straight line from a textbook; it's been built on two decades of real-world, hands-on experience, and I believe that's what makes my approach to project management unique.
My career began on the tools. For ten years, I worked as an electrician, getting my hands dirty with the complex electrical systems that are the lifeblood of any major project. That time gave me a fundamental understanding of how things actually work, not just how they’re supposed to work on paper. I learned to troubleshoot under pressure, to respect the skill of every tradesperson on site, and to see a blueprint not as a diagram, but as a puzzle waiting to be solved. This practical foundation is something I carry with me into every meeting and every decision I make today.
About a decade ago, I transitioned into a leadership role, eager to apply my technical knowledge on a larger scale. As a Project Manager, I’ve had the privilege of leading a wide variety of complex industrial and commercial projects. My goal is always the same: to deliver exceptional results on time and within budget. However, my method is what truly defines my work. I see myself as the bridge between the strategic vision of a project and the practical realities of its execution.
Because I've been on the ground, I can anticipate challenges before they become problems. I can speak the same language as my installation teams, fostering a sense of mutual respect and collaboration that is essential for a smooth workflow. For me, managing a project isn't just about timelines and spreadsheets; it's about empowering the team, coordinating effectively across different disciplines, and ensuring that the quality of the work is never compromised.
I take a great deal of pride in seeing a project through from the initial planning stages to the final handover. There’s nothing more satisfying than knowing I’ve played a key part in transforming a complex plan into a functional, finished reality. It’s this passion for building and problem-solving that continues to drive me every single day.
