Powering Up a New Substation
3 October 2025
It’s always a great feeling to get stuck into a new project, and this week is a big one for us! The Power & Control team has just kicked things off on-site at a brand new substation build, and the energy is fantastic. We’re handling all the electrical installation work, and it’s a project we’re really proud to be a part of – helping to keep the UK’s power grid strong and reliable.
Week one has been all about getting set up and laying the groundwork for everything to come. You might be wondering what "full electrical installation" actually means for a project like this. Well, here’s a quick rundown of what we’re up to:
- Getting the cabling framework sorted: Think of this as the skeleton for the whole system. We're putting in all the cable ladders and trunking that will safely hold and organise miles of wiring. A tidy job here makes everything safer and easier to manage later on.
- Power and lighting: You can't work safely in the dark! We're fitting all the essential lighting and power sockets that the operational team will need for maintenance and general duties down the line.
- Keeping the kit safe and dry: This one’s super important. We're installing special heating and dehumidifier systems. This stops damp and condensation from getting in and causing problems for the really expensive, critical electrical gear inside.
Honestly, jobs like this are what we're all about. It’s more than just cables and lights; it's about making sure the power infrastructure we all rely on is top-notch, safe, and built to last.
The team has done a brilliant job in this first week, really hitting the ground running. A massive well done to everyone involved so far!
We’ll be sharing more updates as we go, so keep an eye on the blog to see how it all takes shape.
