Site Visit: Harnessing Solar Power Across Complex Roofs in Birmingham
5 December 2025
It is always good to get out of the office and visit the teams on the ground. Today took me to Birmingham, where our engineers are currently tackling a substantial renewable energy project.
We are in the process of installing a 200-panel solar array, but what makes this project particularly interesting is not just the scale, but the complexity of the installation environment.
Adaptability is Key Solar installation isn't always a "one size fits all" operation. On this specific site, our engineers are working across three distinct roof types simultaneously:
- Trapezoidal (Metal profile)
- Flat
- Slate
Each of these surfaces requires a different mounting system, distinct fixing methods, and a specific safety approach. Seeing the team seamlessly switch between these environments highlights the versatility and technical knowledge we have here at Power & Control. It is not just about putting panels up; it is about engineering a solution that ensures structural integrity and maximum efficiency, regardless of the surface.
Nearing Completion The progress so far has been excellent. Despite the challenges of working across multiple elevations and roof materials, the installation is moving at a great pace.
We are on track for completion next week. I am very much looking forward to seeing the finished result and switching the system on for the client.
Summary Projects like this demonstrate that whether it’s a modern industrial unit or a traditional slate roof, we have the expertise to deliver. Great work by the team in Birmingham today.
